THE VILLAGE OF WILDE LAKE

Neighborhoods:  Bryant Woods, Faulkner Ridge and Running Brook (The Birches is in Running Brook). Bryant Woods was the first neighborhood developed in the village.

Naming:  The village was named for Frazar B. Wilde, past chairman of the board of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. Bryant Woods was named for the American poet William Cullen Bryant. The names of most of the streets come from his works.

Faulkner Ridge is the second neighborhood in the village and was named for the writer William Faulkner. Running Brook is the third neighborhood in the village and was named for one of the works of Robert Frost,  American poet. The Birches is a section of Running Brook neighborhood and was named after a poem by Robert Frost.

Neighborhood Centers:  Running Brook, 5730 Columbia Road; Bryant Woods, 10449 Green Mountain Circle; and Faulkner Ridge, 10518 Marble Faun; these neighborhood centers house nursery schools during the day. The three neighborhood centers were built by the Columbia Association.

Village Community Association:  Located in Slayton House, Wilde Lake Village Green, 10400 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia 21044. Manager is Bernice Kish. 410-730-3987.

Community Centers:  Slayton House, the Wilde Lake Community Center, was named for John Slayton, first manager of the Columbia Association. The facility consists of the main room (Gene Weiss Room), the Bill White Room, the Wilde Lake Room, dance studio, and set construction/rehearsal room. The main room can accommodate 240 for a meeting, 150 banquet. It also includes a stage and folding raked seating for 114.

Village Center:  The Wilde Lake Village Green was the first village center in Columbia. The Green includes 26 stores in 70,102 sq. ft. of retail space and 18,000 sq. feet of office space. Architects for the village center are Cohen Haft and Associates of Silver Spring, Cope, Linder, Walmsley of Philadelphia, and Gehry, Walsh and O'Malley of Baltimore.

Plaza:   In the center of the 2-acre plaza stands a sculpture which is a three figure representation of family love. It was designed by Pierre duFayet. A children's play area is nearby.
